We all live busy lives, and getting about town can be an expensive and time-consuming chore – yet a necessary one! It’s wonderful to be able to afford a car, of course, but it may not be within your reach. Or, in fact, it might not be worthwhile as, for the city commute, it could be easier and quicker to take the bus or train. A small form of the motorcycle, either electric or petrol powered, a scooter is cheap to buy, cheap to insure and economical to run. Electric models require charging overnight and provide only a minimum of range as a result, but if you look at petrol models, you will find their very small yet capable engines use very little fuel and can get you a long way.
However, there are very few around, and not all are legal for use on the highways, so check carefully if you want one of these for the commute.

This is a brand with a reputation for excellent machines that are well-built and very impressive to ride, and this one is no exception. The 71cc two-stroke twin cylinder engine is very capable indeed, and can propel this model to as much as 48mph – more than enough for the city commute – but therein lies the problem: this one is designed for fun and is built for off-road use, and as things stand, is not road legal.
We questioned the inclusion of this one on our list, but as not everybody is looking for a scooter to go to work or the shops, we thought it was worth it as it is great fun. It comes with all the usual safety features, plus much more besides, and is very much worth a look if you want to enjoy extreme or exciting riding in unusual place.

3: Zipper Budget Mini Petrol Scooter
This small and very cute little scooter would make a great fun purchase for a child or for running around a larger property. Please note this one is not suitable for use on public roads, so if you want one for commuting, it’s not for you! You get the standard 49cc motor, which gives you plenty of punch for such a lightweight model, plus a nice and sturdy metal frame and platform.
This one is designed for kids or smaller adults, and has an adjustable platform and handlebar set-up, plus full suspension for more comfortable riding. It also has a full brake set-up, so it’s safe for use by all with a little instruction. It does need assembly, but it will take less than an hour to put together, and once ready to go, it’s a fun and exciting scooter for personal use.
