The Best Toddler Pillows

1: ClevaMama Toddler pillow

Hen it comes to children’s products there is one thing you can be sure of – safety will have been at the forefront of the manufacturer’s mind from design through to point of sale. This is why you will find that toddler pillows are usually made from material that is fully certified as non-toxic – you would be surprised how many materials contain toxins – as this pillow from ClevaMama is. It’s a neat pillow, a simple design, with all the attributes you need.

It’s made from especially breathable material that allows for full airflow, is filled with ‘Clevafoam’ – the brand’s own specially designed, created and tested memory foam that provides extreme comfort – and it comes with a removable cover that is reverse zipped for ease of use. It is hypoallergenic, too, and 55x30cm, which is about the standard for one of these. Designed for a cot-bed, this one comes with favourable customer reviews, and at a sensible price, plus you can also choose a selection of additional pillowcases at a small extra cost.

Key Features
  • Non-toxic
  • Memory foam
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Removable cover

2: Sarah Jayne Anti-Allergy Pillow

The Sarah Jayne brand offers a wide range of children’s products, many of them bedroom items, and this very simple yet usable pillow comes among them. We say simple as there is not a lot of innovation you can put into a pillow, so it’s not meant as a negative! Indeed, this is a decent toddler pillow from a known brand, measuring 60x40cm – so a little larger than some – and with anti-allergy properties, which is a very important factor as kids can react to allergens very strongly.

It’s made from certified materials so is non-toxic, and is 70% polyester and 30% cotton, the filling itself being 100% polyester. This one is not a memory foam pillow, so if that’s what you want you need to look elsewhere, but it is 100% machine washable – that’s the entire pillow, cover as well. If we have one concern it’s that this pillow is very, very cheap; that’s not a bad thing, but it does raise the eyebrows a little when compared to some on the list!

Key Features
  • Machine washable
  • Not memory foam
  • Contractor nozzle
  • 40x60cm

3: Ready Steady Bed Toddler Pillow

There appear to be a couple of standard sizes for toddler pillows, varying by a small amount across the various items. This one is another 60x40cm pillow, which is the perfect size for a typical cot bed. It’s very similar in every way to the one reviewed above, in that it comes with a cotton and polyester cover, and is filled with 100% anti-allergy polyester fibre for a comfortable and allergy-free sleep for your child, which will also help you breathe easily too!

Is there anything notable about this one? Well, not really, as it is nothing special, but once again that is not a negative. Everything you want in a toddler pillow is here, from the comfort level to the washable property – machine washable once again – plus this one is double stitched to keep the contents inside the cover. A perfectly good toddler pillow at a very good price and with great customer reviews, so well worth a look.

Key Features
  • Non-toxic
  • 40x60cm
  • Anti-allergy
  • Machine wash

4: Panda Kids Bamboo Memory Foam

There are pillows, and then there’s a more sophisticated approach such as this. From Panda, this is the original of what has fast become a growing trend – the bamboo pillow. A little explanation: bamboo is used to make the fabric, and is proven to be naturally anti-bacterial, plus also anti-allergenic. It has been used in the Eastern countries for a long time, but is only now coming to the fore in the west. It’s natural, safe, proven and very comfortable, too.

Bamboo is also very breathable and aids where moisture is concerned. This pillow is a memory foam design, so your child will find it shapes to fit their contours, and also a curved design that is proven to provide extra comfort. It’s machine washable and requires much lower heat and less time than cotton, for example, so is easy to maintain. This one measures 45x25cm – which makes it great as a travel item – and while more expensive than some, comes with very good customer reviews, so is certainly worthy of a second look.

Key Features
  • Bamboo fabric
  • Memory foam
  • 45x25cm
  • Anti-bacterial

5: Roma Microfibre Toddler Pillow

We have mentioned the customer reviews in a few of these; when it comes to products for children we believe these are a very good indicator of quality, as anyone who finds a child’s product that does not do the job is going to say so! This pillow from Roma, another of the simple anti-allergenic filled pillows of the standard design, meets with favourable comments, so we thought it wroth including as another example of a standard toddler pillow.

It has all the attributes of others of this ilk – 100% hollow polyester filling that provides great comfort with anti-allergenic properties – and comes with a cover that is made from soft touch microfibre polyester for added comfort. It measures 56x38cm so is around the norm for a cot or cot bed, and it is fully machine washable for added ease of use. That’s a pretty standard, yet good quality, toddler pillow, and at a sensible price.

Key Features
  • polyester filling
  • Microfibre cover
  • Anti-allergenic
  • 56x38cm

6: Anti-Allergy Toddler Pillow

This is another very standard toddler pillow, and notably it’s non-branded – it is very likely the same item sold under a number of other brand names.

It’s made from certified materials so is non-toxic, and is polyester and flame retardant, the filling itself being 100% polyester. This one is not a memory foam pillow, so if that’s what you want you need to look elsewhere, but it is 100% machine washable – that’s the entire pillow, cover as well. If you are stuck on the idea of brand names, and that’s fair enough as they do offer some reassurance, this may not be for you, but it’s cheap, and does the job.

Key Features
  • Anti-allergenic
  • 60x40cm
  • Not memory foam
  • Non-branded

7: Small Toddler Pillow

This is another unbranded toddler pillow, and is actually the smaller version of that listed above. It’s a no-frills buy that will do the job for a cot, but at 35x25cm would be too small for a cot bed or junior bed, so if that’s what you need then you should take a look above. Nevertheless, it’s a decent small size pillow for cot beds, has all the attributes you need, and is cheap.

It’s made from certified materials so is non-toxic, and is polyester for softness, the filling itself being 100% polyester.

  • Small pillow 35x25cm
  • Anti-allergenic
  • Non-branded
  • Machine washable

8: Clevamama Baby Pillow Newborn

There are differing opinions as to whether children of under 12 months should have a pillow, so while we list this one, we recommend you take expert advice. It’s a smaller version of that at number 1, from Clevamama, who are a known brand, so we take reassurance from that. It is well-made, it has all the safety attributes you want, and is fully certified for use, and it is for use by new-borns up to 12 months old.

It’s made from especially breathable material that allows for full airflow, is filled with ‘Clevafoam’ – the brand’s own specially designed, created and tested memory foam that provides extreme comfort – and it comes with a removable cover that is reverse zipped for ease of use. It is hypoallergenic, too, and 40x23cm. Designed for a cot, this one comes with favourable customer reviews, and at a sensible price, plus you can also choose a selection of additional pillowcases at a small extra cost.

Key Features
  • For babies
  • 40x23cm
  • Cot size
  • Memory foam

9: The Little Green Sheep Organic Wool Pillow

If you live in a green household and want to continue that theme with your toddler’s pillows, this is the one you want to look at. It’s made entirely from organic materials, is UK produced and uses certified completely organic wool as its filling. This is claimed to have several impressive properties, not least that is anti-allergenic. As a natural product it is breathable and it regulates temperature too. It also repels dust mites, which you may not believe are in your home, but take it as a given, they are!

This one is clearly marked as not being suitable for children under 12 months old – in fact, the only one on this list so far is that above – and that is an important point. It measures the standard 40x60cm, so is suitable for the usual cot or cot bed or perhaps even a junior bed, and it complies with all the safety requirements for pillows and children’s products. This is, with no doubts, a quality product and in that area is a cut above some of the above, but it’s also considerably more expensive than many of these, so the choice is yours.

Key Features
  • Organic wool product
  • 60x40cm
  • Anti-allergenic
  • Cot and cot bed sized

10: Junior Bedding Pillow and Duvet Set

Our final choice is this set from Junior Bedding – it’s likely a generic product that is marketed under different names – which is combination duvet and toddler pillow set, and as such makes great appeal at what is an excellent price. It’s a no-frills product, in that it is an anti-allergy, fire-retardant, polyester-filled pillow and duvet with polypropylene outer coverings, and it does the job intended with all the safety certifications necessary.

The pillow is a standard sized 60x40cm so is designed for a cot, cot bed or perhaps a junior bed, with the same going for the duvet, which is 120x150cm. It’s nicely made and comes with good customer recommendations. There’s not a lot to say that hasn’t already been said, so all in all this is a good little set that will easily suffice, and at the price – you could find this package for not much more than a tenner – is a good deal.

Key Features
  • pillow and duvet set
  • cot or cot bed sized
  • standard materials

That’s out list of the top 10 toddler pillows, but which one will give your child the best night’s sleep? Before we give you our conclusion, here’s a look at the features you need to consider when buying one of these.

Important Features to Consider

Buying a toddler pillow is a very important purchase, so you need to be sure that you are getting one that meets all the criteria. Here’s a brief list of what to look for:

  • Safety – you must buy a pillow that complies with all the relevant safety requirements for such products, and you have no problem choosing from our list in that respect as each of them does so.
  • Anti-allergy – all the pillows we feature claim anti-allergy properties, so it may be worth you checking out which materials are the best, which leads us to…
  • Material – among the above we have cotton, polyester, and even bamboo as materials used for the pillows. Each has its own properties, so choose carefully.
  • Size – the standard size is 60x40cm, some are a little smaller, and one is designed especially for babies, so check the size before you commit.
  • Memory Foam – only a few of the above are memory foam pillows, and this does have some benefits so check it out further.

How it Works

Like all pillows, a toddler pillow provides somewhere for the head to rest in comfort when at rest or sleeping. We all have our favourite pillows that we miss terribly when we are sleeping somewhere other than at home, so we can imagine how satisfying it is for a toddler to be able to rest his or her head on a pillow that they recognise and appreciate.

After all, getting kids to sleep is not in any way the easiest part of bringing up a child, so a pillow that helps is always going to be a bonus. Also, toddler pillows do not need to be as big as adult versions, and may have other properties. Some are memory-foam pillows, which means the filling will ‘remember’ the child’s head and form the perfect shape. They will be especially breathable, and have removable covers for easy washing. It’s simple yet sometimes quite innovative features that distinguish the toddler pillow, as we found when looking through our list.

Let’s have a look, then, at the top 10 toddler pillow on the market right now, and see if we can find one that will be right for your child.

Let’s Wrap It Up!

This is an important purchase as you want your child to be comfortable and safe when in bed, so which do we recommend? To be fair to all the makers involved, each one of the 10 pillows does the job it is required to, is certified safe, is washable and is anti-allergenic, so the choice is entirely up to you.

If on a budget, there are several pillows on our list that you can find for around or under a tenner, such as number 2, from Sarah Jayne, but these are not memory foam. If you want a memory foam pillow, and are willing to pay the extra, the Panda Bamboo – no. 4 on the list – has great reviews and excellent credentials, so we would suggest you look at that one very closely.

Get your toddler a great pillow, and both they and you can enjoy comfortable nights!
