A car is a very convenient way of getting around; let’s face it, you would much rather hop into your car and go where you need than wait for a bus or a train. When the motorcar first appeared, now much more than a hundred years ago, it was affordable only by the very rich, and in those early days the emphasis was very much on the luxury vehicle market. It wasn’t until the likes of Henry Ford and, on this side of the Atlantic, Herbert Austin saw the market for cheap, everyday cars that ownership really took off.
Don’t miss: Best bluetooth car kit
Back then, many cars were open to the elements, and most that did have a cover were clad in a fabric. Today, we have the luxury of fully enclosed vehicles – indeed, we have come full-circle and an open-top car is now considered the luxury version – yet in cold weather, it can still be uncomfortable when you first get in your car. Some models now have heated seats, but what if you can’t afford such a luxury? You can buy a heated cushion for very little money, and keep your behind warm from the moment you get in your car after that cold night!
We took a look at the top 10 best heated car covers available on the market right now – you can buy each online with just the click of a button – and we were surprised at how many different models and brands there are to choose from. These are simple devices that perform a specific job, so don’t expect too many differences between them, and each is a useful and very clever item that you will find to be an excellent buy. So, before we go on, let’s talk about what they are, and what they do.
Best Heated Car Seat Covers
1: Kaigeli-888 Heated Car Cushion
We begin our review with a model that is typical of the breed; it’s a neat and universal design that can be used in any vehicle, and it operates from the cigarette lighter or another 12v power source. This one heats up very quickly and uses infra-red heating for added safety, and it is an intelligent design too. It will stop heating at 60° when someone is seated on it, and at 40° when it is not in use, so you have no chance of overheating.
This one is fully insulated and safe, and will begin heating as soon as it is plugged in, with heat noticeable within 30 seconds of switching on. It will continue heating as long as you want it to up to its maximum, and is very efficient, pollution free and makes no noise. It is also moisture resistant, so there’s no need to worry if it’s raining outside! All in all, this is a good design that does the job it is intended for, and at less than £15 is good value in this company.
- Quick heating
- Cheap
- Simple to use
- Insulated and safe
- None, it does the job
2: Audew 12v Heater
There are many similarities between these heated cushions, as we are sure you will see during the review, and this one is a very similar item to that above. Unlike some, it heats the back as well as the seat, so you get a thoroughly warm seat for your journey, and it is very effective indeed. This one also claims to be universal – to fit any car seat – but we have our concerns about such a claim, as there can be differences in size between front seats, as well as design and style.
However, it’s good and does the job; you plug in the cable – it’s over a metre long so no problem there – to the lighter socket or another 12v power source, and it heats up to the required temperature very quickly. It is controlled by a thermostat so is safe and efficient, and you have no worries about overheating. All in all, it does a good job of keeping you warm when driving, and at £17 is not expensive.
- Heats back as well as seat
- Good price
- Quality item
- Works quickly
- Difficult to fault
3: Boview Comfort Heated Car Seat
This one appears to be identical to the first one, so we’ll repeat that review in a moment. First, it’s worth noting that a heated seat is great for long journeys as it helps alleviate fatigue, which can be a problem when driving for a long time. Always remember to take a rest if you have a long way to go. This model operates from the cigarette lighter or another 12v power source, heats up very quickly and uses infra-red heating for added safety, and it is an intelligent design too. It will stop heating at 60° when someone is seated on it, and at 40° when it is not in use, so you have no chance of overheating.

4: Streetwize 12v Heated Seat Cushion
The similarities between these heated seat cushions will undoubtedly make it very difficult for you to choose between the various options, but we can recommend this one among the rest as it is very good. It’s well made and durable, with infra-red heating elements for the very best in efficiency, and like all the rest it operates from a 12v source in your car, including the cigarette lighter for which an adapter is supplied. It is designed for universal use and fits the seat with elastic straps for ease of use.
As with all well heated cushions, it comes with a thermostat so you have no fear of overheating or any other problems, and it also features a high/ low-temperature switch, so you can choose your desired heat level with ease and in an instant. It heats the seat as well as the back, so you keep nice and warm throughout your journey, and it is a good all-around design that will not disappoint. At around £15 it is in the right price bracket, too.
- Hi/Low switch
- Thermostat
- Easy to fit
- Cheap
- Once again, we can’t find any!
5: AutoGear 12v Black Heated Seat Cushion
This one follows the routine of all the rest, in that it operates via the 12v cigarette lighter or another such power source in the vehicle. It fits to the seat by elastic straps so will fit any car seat – or so the makers claim – and it is easy to use and very efficient with infra-red heating elements. It heats up very quickly and is effective, and will help relieve stress and fatigue on long journeys, as well as keeping you warm for the duration.
This one has a 50-inch cable that has the proper adapter and is simple to plug in, plus it has a thermostat for safety and to protect from overheating, and also a fuse in the line for added safety. You also get a high-low switch so you can choose your heating levels easily and quickly. This is a well-made model that comes from a known and regarded maker, and while it is a little more expensive than some of the others here at around £20, it’s not expensive.
- Quality item
- Heats quickly
- Safety features
- Easy to fit
- none, but it is a little more expensive than some!
6: Non-slip Rear Car Seat Covers
Every now and then in these reviews, an item slips in that really shouldn’t be here, but is! This is one of those, but we’ll tell you about it nevertheless – mainly as it gives us something different to say! This one is a rear car seat cover, and it’s not heated – so only read on if that interests you in the slightest! It’s designed to keep your upholstery clean and tidy and does the job in a way that is very effective.
Made from material that is anti-bacterial and soft and comfortable, and that resembles leather in many ways, this rear seat cover is easy to fit and will suit most vehicles, and does the job it is intended for, although doesn’t provide heat. The anti-slip design also means it will not move when installed, so you get extra efficiency. At around £30 it’s quite pricey, and as it is not a heated cushion, not one for the shortlist.
- Comfortable
- Protective
- Non-slip
- Easy to fit
- Not a heated cushion!
7: Trixes Heated Seat Cushion
We are back to normal with this model, which fits the bill in every way. This one heats the back as well as the seat, and it is a very effective indeed. This one also claims to be universal – to fit any car seat – but we have our concerns about such a claim, as there can be differences in size between front seats, as well as design and style. However, it does what it is meant to do, and was easy to fit.
As we said, this cushion does the job; you plug in the cable – it’s over a metre long so no problem there – to the lighter socket or another 12v power source, and it heats up to the required temperature very quickly. It is controlled by a thermostat so is safe and efficient, and you have no worries about overheating. All in all, it does a good job of keeping you warm when driving, and at less than £15 is very cheap.

8: A2Z Heated Massage Cushion
Finally, we come across a seat cushion with a difference! This one not only heats both the seat and the back, but also provides a massage too. It can be used both in your vehicle or at home, and is equally useful in either setting. It operates from the cigarette lighter or any other power source – an adapter is provided – and it is very effective and an interesting design. So, does it work? Indeed it does, and a massage on the move is an excellent way of relieving stress and fatigue when driving.
The cushion offers five massage pads that gently caress the back, neck and shoulders, and it comes with a remote control so you can choose from the three speed settings and the five massage programs. It’s easy to use and very effective, and you also get a mains adapter for if you want to use it at home. The heat function is good, too, so we recommend you check this one out further if it appeals to you. At a little less than £30 it is more expensive than some of these, but the massage feature makes it worth it, and it will help make your journey more comfortable.
- Massage feature
- Heated back and seat
- Remote control
- 5 programs
- None, but it’s more expensive than some
9: Heated Back and Seat Massage Cushion
If this one sounds familiar, that’s because it is identical to the above, but a little less expensive at under £25. It can be used both in your vehicle or at home, and is equally useful in either setting. It operates from the cigarette lighter or any other power source – an adapter is provided – and it is very effective and an interesting design. 10: Jorlyen 9-Node Massage Heated Cushion
Our final choice is another heated cushion with massage function, and it is a very impressive device indeed. This one features nine separate nodes for massaging many areas of the body when on the move – or at home, as it comes with a mains adapter too – and it is very sophisticated. You not only get the 9 nodes, but also 8 possible massage programs and a timer, so you can choose how long you want your massage experience to be. It heats up quickly, too, so is perfect for those cold winter mornings.
In addition to all that, you get to choose the intensity of the massage from various settings, all by remote control, as well as different frequency settings so you can customise your massage to your requirements. It really is an impressive item, and one that we like very much. If there is one drawback, it’s that it will cost you around £60 – much more expensive than anything else on this list – but we can’t help saying that it is the one that gives you the full experience and maximum results.
- Very neat
- 9 massage nodes
- Various speed and intensity settings
- Heats quickly
- Only the price, but we think it’s worth the extra
That’s 10 heated cushions – and some that are massagers too – for you to choose from, so before we go on to sum up our findings, let’s check out some of the features you need to look for.
Important Features to Consider
There are few differences between these items – apart from the massage function – so here’s a few things to consider when making your choice.
Safety Features – you need a thermostat to control your heated cushion and each one of these has the relevant safety features, so no problems there.
Massage – if you want the massage feature, and we recommend you consider it, the final three on the list are the ones you should look for, and remember there is a large price differential involved.
Heat Control – you need one with adjustable heat control so you can choose your level, and it should be said that most of these offer such a feature.
There’s not a lot more to say in truth, so all that remains now is for us to wrap things up!
How It Works
A heated car cushion: it’s a simple idea, and one that has its roots way back in automotive history. It’s difficult to pinpoint just where the first heated seats were introduced, but on certain luxury models in the USA in the 1950’s they were offered as an optional extra. Somewhat unsurprisingly, it seems the Swede’s produced the first car with heated seats as standard – the Saab 99 in the early 70’s – but to this day it is a common feature usually in only the more expensive models in a range. That’s why the heated car cushion is such a popular after-market option.

How do they work? It’s a very simple concept, and one that is very similar to your electric heated blanket. The cushion contains a heating element, which is designed to create a certain warm but not too hot temperature. It’s a very comfortable feeling and there are safety aspects built in, so you don’t need to worry about over-heating or any other potential problems. They are also cheap and easy to use, and you can choose from a variety of colours and designs.
How do they work? With most models, you plug them into your cigarette lighter – beware that, as we are now in an age where smoking is no longer socially acceptable in many places, more modern cars may not have such a feature – and it works off the power provided by such, usually a 12-volt source. They heat up very quickly and do a good job of keeping you warm and cosy when driving. If that sounds like something that would make your life easier and your journey to work more comfortable, you need to read on, and then you can pick the best heated car cushion for your car – so here we go, the top 10!
Let’s Wrap It Up!
This hasn’t been the most exciting of reviews, but these heated seat cushions are among the more practical and usable items that we have talked about. Picking one out from the list is not easy, and it depends really on whether you want a massage feature or not. If you want a heated seat cover, and nothing more, you have six to choose from that are all under £20, and that all do the job they are designed for.
If you do want a massage feature – and although we’ve said it before, we really do recommend it – then the final three are your choices; we like the final one, the more expensive model, as it has excellent features, so the choice is really up to you. Meanwhile, have a read through, and get yourself a comfortable ride for those cold winter mornings and tiresome long journeys.
