Don’t miss: Wireless CCTV systems
We’ve reviewed some pretty plain items, but when it comes to the ordinary, doorbells may well top the list! Of course, we take these things for granted; a doorbell is not a luxury item, after all, but a necessity. You need to know when someone is visiting, or when there’s a parcel being delivered, so you need a doorbell that you will hear. The great thing is that wireless technology has made things easier. You no longer need to fit a bell as a permanent fixture; you can simply fit the bell push where it is needed and the bell itself where you need it. With some of these, you can move it around with you.

Best Wireless Doorbells
We begin our review with an item that is typical of the breed, the 1byOne Easy Chime Wireless doorbell. This one is a clever unit that offers you excellent performance and versatility, at a sensible price. You get a separate bell push and chime unit, the latter being quite stylish, packed with features. The range is an impressive 100metres, so it’s perfectly capable of use anywhere throughout the home, while the bell push is fixable by either screws, or by the provided, strong adhesive tape – perfect for uPVC door frames.
The features available on this unit are impressive: the chime unit can be programmed to deliver one of 36 different sounds, each of which is CD quality. It also has a flashing LED light – which can be turned off or on – so that the hard of hearing can also use the unit. The push button is guaranteed not to interfere with other wireless equipment nearby, which can be a problem with poor quality models, and you can add more chimes or buttons as you wish. If you do add chimes, each one can be programmed to deliver a different noise! With adjustable volume, too, this is a quality item, and at less than £20 is good value.
OK, we’ve cheated a little with this one, but it’s such a good deal that we thought you should know about it! We found that you can get the above, but with two chime units, for the same price – so what’s not to like! Here’s what we said: This one is a clever unit that offers you excellent performance and versatility, at a sensible price.
The push button is guaranteed not to interfere with other wireless equipment nearby, which can be a problem with poor quality models, and as you get two chime units, you can fit them un permanent positions – they can be wall-mounted if you wish – and even programme them with different chimes. At less that £20, this is a great deal.
This one follows the same idea as most of these, in that it is a set with a chime unit and a bell push. The latter comes with screws and adhesive tape, so you can easily mount it on a uPVC door frame. The bell push is battery powered – it’s included – while the chime unit simply plugs into a mains socket. This means you can move it around the house with you, and simply slot it in wherever. With up to 600ft range, you will find it to be very versatile indeed, and it has various volume levels for added functionality. It’s a neat, unobtrusive design that does the job it is intended for.
You get a choice of more than 50 ring tones, so there is bound to be something you like the sound of, and it’s easy to select them and programme. The only downside to this model is that it does not have a light function, so may not be suitable for the hard of hearing. However, what we do like is that the base unit – the chime – can receive signals from as many as ten bell push units, so you can equip each of your doors or other entrances with a push that will do the job. It’s a neat unit and, at around £10, very well-priced.
This is another clever design, and one that is surprisingly cheap at less than £10. It comes as a two part package, and the bell push can be attached to uPVC by the adhesive tape, or by screws for wooden door frames. The chime unit plugs into a mains socket, so can be used anywhere there is a socket in the home; move it with you where you go, for example, if you are upstairs or a long way from the door. It’s a neat design and unobtrusive, so takes up little space. It does have a light, but it’s not a very noticeable one, so perhaps that’s a small downside.
However, we like this one, and not just for the price: it’s loud enough to be heard – you can change the volume at will – and you get a choice of 32 ring tones, which is plenty enough! The button is also rated as suitable for outdoor use, and is guaranteed not to interfere with other nearby wireless devices. The unit comes with free, lifetime technical support and a massive 18-month manufacturer warranty, which we think is amazing at the price. One for the shortlist.
This is another one from the 1byOne brand, and they seem to have an impressive range of quality wireless doorbell kits. As with the earlier one, you can have this one with a choice of multiple chimes or multiple bell push units, and all for around the same price if you take the trouble to look. It’s finished in white, and the button comes with screws for wood fitting, or with adhesive tape for attaching to other surfaces. The range is a decent 300ft, so you can use it anywhere you wish in and around the home.
Now, here’s the clever bit: with this one, you get two chimes, but there is a difference. One is battery operated, so can be mounted on the wall if wished, while the other is of the plug-in variety. You can programme each with any of the many available chimes, and you will know which one is calling you! This quality item comes with the guarantee of lack of interference – so you won’t find it rings when your neighbours bell is pushed! – and is easy to install and use, so we can’t help but recommend it. At less than £20, it’s also worth the money.
There is no doubting the benefits of a video doorbell over one that does not show images. This model is a suitably effective device, although a touch expensive, that offers all the features you would want from one of these. To begin with, it can work with an Alexa device to start videoing via your voice command, which gives it added versatility. This one has two way voice operation, so whoever is at the door can speak to you and you them through a variety of your devices including your phone.
The doorbell comes with a detector that sends an alert to your chosen device when the bell is pressed. It has infra-red night vision for constant monitoring, and can be powered either by rechargeable batteries or by hard wiring into your mains. You can check on it at any time remotely and see what is going on, and it has full Wi-Fi connectivity. Furthermore, if your doorbell is stolen, the supplier will replace it free of charge, guaranteed. Worth the investment if you want decent security, have a close look at this one.
The push comes with adhesive and screws, for use on uPVC or wood surfaces, and is a neat design that is guaranteed to withstand the weather, wherever you are. It’s waterproof, too, and is designed to be durable. Batteries for the bell push are included. This unit is very stylish, and also neat and unobtrusive, and you will find its volume levels to be sufficient. It doesn’t flash, however, so you need to look elsewhere if that is a requirement. At £16.99 it’s in the middle of the price range, and certainly worth checking out.
This is an impressive package from the Avantek brand, even if it is one of the more expensive choices at more than £20. This is another twin pack deal, and it’s a high quality item with many excellent features. You get a very useful two chime units, each of which can be individually programmed, plus a neat bell push that can be fixed to the door frame either with the adhesive or the screws. The unites are neatly designed and unobtrusive, and are simple to install. They also have a unique code, so you will not be subject to interference from other nearby wireless devices.
A choice of 52 ring tones, with some well-known melodies among them, and adjustable volume combined with long range makes this very usable. Rest assured that this one is designed with the hard of hearing in mind, as it also includes a very noticeable flashing light when activated. Both of the chime units are plug-in devices so you can use them wherever you may be in the home, and it is a simple and quick package to set up and start using. As we said, it’s one of the more expensive models, but it’s also one of the better quality ones, so worth a look.
This is another one from the 1byOne range, and it is a neat and very stylish design priced in the mid-range. You get a package including one bell push and one chime unit, and the bell push comes with the usual adhesive or screw fixing options. The chime is of the plug-in variety, and you get a choice of more than 30 ring tones, so there is bound to be something for you. Volume goes up to 85dB – plenty loud enough – and you can take the portable unit with you wherever you may be in the home.
This one comes with three possible settings: you can choose to have it chime and flash its LED light, or to flash only or ring only. This makes it a perfect choice for the deaf or hard of hearing, and a very versatile unit all-round. It provides a sensible range so you can use it throughout the home, and we can’t find fault with it anywhere! Definitely one for your shortlist!
Our final choice is another twin pack deal, and although at the top end of the price range, it’s a good one. You get the usual two chime units and one bell push – complete with fittings for mounting on any surface – and each of the plug-in chime units can be individually programmed. It’s highly secure so there will be no interference, and you will be able to hear the units thanks to variable volume control. It’s easy to set up and select one of the 25 chimes, and the chime units are portable so you can carry it with you around the house.
It does have a light function but it’s not the best we have seen, and the weatherproof and waterproof bell-push promises long life and durability. Range is perfectly adequate and build quality is of an acceptable standard, so we have no hesitation in recommending this, even if it is more than £20.
That’s our lot, then: ten quality wireless doorbells for you to look at, and each with its own special and handy features. Let’s recap some of the features to look for.
How it Works
How does a doorbell work? Simple – you push a button, and it makes a sound! The difference with wireless doorbells is that, rather than being physically connected to the chime unit, the bell push is stand-alone, and sends a signal wirelessly. This means that you can place the main unit – the one that does the business – wherever you want, as long as it is within range. The benefits of this are many: you may have an office upstairs, or you could be in the garden. In either case, you take the chime unit with you, so you won’t miss any callers.
Many of these units have high quality chimes, and you can choose from a variety of sounds, and some include lights that flash to alert the deaf or hard of hearing. There are many more features to be discovered across the many different models; for example, some base units are battery powered, whereas others plug into the mains. These doorbells are designed to be practical and versatile, and to also be portable. So, let’s have a look at the top 10 best wireless doorbell packages available right now, and we’re sure there will be one that suits your requirements.
Features to Look For
So, what criteria did we use when choosing our top 10? We looked for ease of use, sensible price, versatility and many other features, and we were pleasantly surprised to find that there are many variations on what we thought would be a standard theme. There are some models that also have a light that flashes, so the hard of hearing will know when someone is at the door.
Buying a doorbell might not be the most exciting purchase you ever make, but as with all such things, it pays to know what to look for. Here’s a quick run-down of the important features to consider with wireless doorbells:
Light – if you or a family member or deaf or hard of hearing, a flashing light feature will certainly be an important consideration. Many of these have such a feature – some more effective than others – so take your time to find the right one.
Tones – a bell is a bell, but if you want to choose an interesting ring tone, each of these has a variety to choose from, so you’re spoilt for choice!
Twin pack – some of these deals are better than others; for example, around half are packages in which you get two chime units – one even offers a combination of one battery powered and one plug-in unit, so you can take one out into the garden if you wish – and they are worth looking at as money saving options.
Price – if we’re honest, there is a small price spread between the cheapest of these and the most expensive, so we recommend only that you buy the one that suits you, and try and go for the best that you can afford.
So, all that remains now is to wrap this up!
